from the editor:
This issue of EAANnouncements has been co-opted by organizational matters. With the calculation
of the annual statement of accounts, it was realized that we ran at a deficit this past year and
therefore could not afford a separate mailing of the annual report. Thus, the Second Annual Report
and Statement of Accounts are included here. Readers have requested a directory of current members,
which is given here current to 10 June 1992. Upon registering with the network, many members
submitted curriculum vitae as requested. Thank goodness not everyone did because a compilation of
their published Western-language works on East Asian archaeology produced 531 titles, which are
offered here for network consumption. For those of you who haven't yet submitted your CV, I will
accept them anytime. In addition, standard forms will be circulated with next year's subscription
forms for the notification of new publications. More titles will be reported regularly in a new
section of the 'nouncements, the Running Bibliography, starting in October.
Except for urgent conference and grant announcements, all other news has been diverted to
EAANnouncements 8. Thus, this issue might not be a "good read" like its predecessors, but I hope you
find the information useful. For those of you who haven't yet sent in your subscription form for
1992, why not do it now and subscribe for 1993 as well?

EAST ASIAN ARCHAEOLOGY NETWORK SECOND ANNUAL REPORT
1 June 1992
EAAN participation:
As of 30 May 1992, EAANetwork had a membership of 137 registered individuals, 29 regular member
subscriptions, 12 student member subscriptions, 8 institutional subscriptions, and 9 newsletter
exchanges with ASEASUK NEWS, Newsletter Archive, WARP, Mitteilungsblatt zur Kunstgeschichte
Ostasiens, JAWS Newsletter, East Asia Tertiary/ Quarternary Newsletter, Prehistoric Mongoloid
Dispersals, Newsletter EAAA, and ICU Archaeology Research Center Publications. Copies of these
publications received by EAANnetwork are deposited in the University of Cambridge library system,
particularly in the Haddon Library of the Faculty of Archaeology and Anthropology and in the Faculty
of Oriental Studies Library.
EAANnouncements:
There have been three issues of EAANnouncements produced in the past year: No. 4 in June 1991,
No. 5 in October 1991, and No. 6 in February 1992. The contents have approximately doubled since
last year to 109 K on computer plus the inclusion of several tables of contents of East Asian
archaeology journals. A copy of every issue continues to be sent to the Newsletter Archive
maintained by Frank Shulman at the University of Maryland.
EAANnouncements production:
Prof. Norman Hammond of the Department of Archaeology, Boston University, was unable to continue
supporting the production and distribution of the EAANnouncements past November 1991, necessitating
the establishment of a subscription system. The current prices have been set at £8 per year for
regular EAANmembers, £5 per year for student EAANmembers, and £10 for institutions. Individuals must
be registered on EAANetwork to be eligible for EAANmember subscription rates.
Network Activities:
[28 March 1991 eurEAAN panel of papers on Korean Archaeology organized by Gina Barnes at the
annual British Association for Korean Studies conference in Cambridge. This event actually occurred
last year but was inadvertently omitted from the First Annual Report.]
13 April 1991 amEAAN meeting at the AAS conference in New Orleans. Roundtable convened by Nancy
Price on "Archaeology and History of the Early Chinese State."
4 April 1992 am EAAN meeting at the AAS conference in Washington, DC.
13-17 September 1992 Negotiations for the projected panel on Chinese archaeology to be held at the
European Association for Chinese Studies in Paris have fallen through and most papers once offered
have now been withdrawn
Bibliographic Development:
Continuous keyboarding during the past two years by student EAANmembers has resulting in a large
bibliography ready to be disseminated to other members. This work has been undertaken with grants
from NEAC, AAS and St John's College Cambridge. The first installment will be a members'
bibliography to appear in EAANnouncements 7.
